UNESCO joins Thailand to celebrate the International Year of Creative Economy

UNESCO joins Thailand’s Creative Economy Agency and Ministry of Culture to celebrate the International Year of Creative Economy with a series of events taking place every weekend in August 2021. Within the celebration framework, UNESCO will directly organize two events: launch of UNESCO Bangkok recent report “Backstage: Managing Creativity and the Arts in Southeast Asia” and launch of “Re-imagining Creative Cities in Twenty-First Century Asia”.

The celebration is a part of UNESCO’s ongoing collaboration with government institutions and civil society in Thailand to support the strengthening of Thailand’s creative sector, implemented thanks to the support of the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Culture.

The Backstage report launch will feature findings from a policy review, in-depth interviews and a survey responded to by 321 cultural and creative industries (CCI) in Southeast Asia. The specific situation of Thailand's creative sector will also be presented. The presentations of the report authors will be followed by a panel discussion consisting of representatives of some CCI organizations and experts in the field, to discuss the challenges their organizations currently face at the policy and operational levels, along with factors that contribute to their success, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The event will be on 14 August 2021, 10:00-12:00 Bangkok time
