Asia-Pacific Regional Statements: Promoting fair and transparent recognition of higher education qualifications

As the only UN agency with a mandate in higher education, UNESCO has a unique role to play in building national capacities for quality higher education and research. In line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, UNESCO promotes equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality higher education (SDG4 Target 3).

Building on its mandate, UNESCO Bangkok conducts policy-relevant research, interactive capacity-building events, and shares lessons learned with partners in 46 countries throughout Asia and the Pacific. As a result, the following regional statements document our shared progress and most significant consultations on higher education in Asia-Pacific:

  • Sydney Statement (2016): Connecting qualifications frameworks, quality assurance and recognition for mobility and employability
  • Shenzhen Statement (2017): Building local and regional capacity for a living quality culture in higher education in Asia and the Pacific
