UNESCO Bangkok and AAHM to host joint seminar for universities in Asia-Pacific on the UNESCO ‘Competence Framework for Cultural Heritage Management’
UNESCO Bangkok and the Secretariat of the Asian Academy for Heritage Management network (AAHM) cordially invites AAHM members and the public to take part in a seminar on ‘Applying the UNESCO Competence Framework for Cultural Heritage Management by universities’.
In 2020, UNESCO launched a Competence Framework for Cultural Heritage Management (hereafter ‘Framework’) that can facilitate design of appropriate education and training for cultural heritage professionals. At this seminar, representatives from five leading Asia-Pacific universities with programmes in cultural heritage management will share their experiences in applying the UNESCO Competence Framework in their local and institutional contexts.
During the event, the Secretariat of AAHM will also announce AAHM’s 2022 – 2023 workplan and new individual and institutional members. The current Secretariat of the AAHM network is hosted by the School of Architecture, Southeast University, Nanjing, China.

The AAHM was founded in 2001 under the aegis of UNESCO and the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM) to strengthen professional capacity to sustainably manage heritage resources by providing a regional platform for institutional cooperation in education, training and research.
The collaboration among AAHM universities is expected to help fill competency gaps that UNESCO has identified in cultural heritage management training and education, targeting both professionals currently practicing in the heritage field as well as students.
AAHM events take the form of research conferences, Field Schools, and other joint activities. To inquire about new membership and future activities, please contact the AAHM Secretariat (Dr Wang Yan, yan.linda.wang(at)hotmail.com).
