Thai-Lao Teacher Training Workshop 'Bringing Living Heritage to the Classroom'

Thai-Lao Teacher Training Workshop 'Bringing Living Heritage to the Classroom'

This first-of-its-kind Thai-Lao teaching training will take place in Udon Thani province, Thailand, from 22 to 24 April 2023. The training content is based on the Resource Kit: Bringing Living Heritage to the Classroom in Asia-Pacific and its GCED Campus' online course for teachers and educators

The training and the afterward lesson plan piloting at 24 schools in Thailand and Lao PDR are organized by UNESCO, Thai Civic Education Foundation, and the Office of Basic Education Office (OBEC) under the Thailand Ministry of Education and the Lao National Commission for UNESCO, with generous support provided by two centres for intangible cultural heritage under the auspices of UNESCO in the Asia-Pacific region, namely the International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICHCAP) the the International Training Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage (CRIHAP); additional support is provided by the Child Media Foundation of Thailand.

In tying Living Heritage or ICH to innovative educational approaches like EISD, GCED and Urban Citizenship Education, this training workshop provides first steps for teacher skillset development on mapping of shared living heritage between Lao PDR and Northeastern Thailand, as well as community-based information collection, in order to finally produce realistic lesson plans that utilize local living heritage as teaching and learning methodologies and materials.

Participants of the training and piloting phase are secondary school teachers from 20 provinces in Northeastern Thailand, and 4 provinces in Lao PDR (Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Champasak and Xiengkhuong), as well as officials from the In-service Teacher Training Division, Department of Teacher Education, and Social Education Division, Research Institute for Educational Sciences, and Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR.
