Introduction to Sustainable Development (SUS) Competences
Why is it important for heritage practitioners to be competent in the area of Sustainable Development?
Sustainable Development (SUS) is a Core Competence area defined under the UNESCO Competence Framework for Cultural Heritage Management. It aims to ensure that heritage protection and management conforms to sustainable development principles and contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The newly developed UNESCO Competence Framework for Cultural Heritage Management identifies the competence (ie. skills and knowledge) required to sustainably manage a cultural heritage site. It applies to various heritage practitioners ranging from skilled workers to decision makers and local stewards.
