Development of Equivalency Programme (EP) for Lower Secondary in Myanmar

In Lao PDR and Myanmar, UNESCO Bangkok is providing technical assistance in developing equivalency programmes for lower secondary education.

In Myanmar, under the supervision and guidance of a UNESCO consultant, a technical writing team from key MOE departments, educational institutes and CSOs drafted a series of EP system and implementation guidebooks from 24-27 March 2014 during a guidebook development workshop. The textbooks for the core subjects of the Myanmar EP were piloted from 23-25 June 2014 in three townships in Yangon.  The textbooks are currently being revised in light of the feedback received from the piloting participants.  Since August, 2016, UNESCO Bangkok has been supporting the pilot non-formal middle school education (NFMSE) programme in two townships.  A total of 76 students were enrolled in the programme during the first semester of the programme.
