2022 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation: Online winners announcement and symposium, 26 November 2022
UNESCO Bangkok cordially invites you to join an online event announcing the winners of the ‘2022 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation’ (hereafter ‘Heritage Awards’). This event will celebrate the outstanding achievements of 13 award-winning projects selected from 6 different countries across the region.
Winners have been selected in all categories of recognition: Award of Excellence, Award of Distinction, Award of Merit, Award for New Design in Heritage Contexts, and the Special Recognition for Sustainable Development.
This year’s jury meeting for the Heritage Awards was conducted from 5 through 8 November 2022, with the participation of world-renowned experts and scholars in the field of cultural heritage conservation. The 2022 jury comprised Kristal Buckley, William Chapman, Richard Engelhardt, Laurence Loh, Lu Wenyu, Biresh Shah, Mohammad Hassan Talebian, Anna Yau, and Yeo Kang Shua (Chair). Short biographies of the Jury members are available here.
This year, the Heritage Awards winners announcement event is part of a larger international symposium, The Next Fifty Years: Challenges and Opportunities for World Heritage, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage.
Following the announcement of this year’s winners, UNESCO will convene a panel discussion on ‘Global standards and regional best practices in sustainable cultural heritage conservation: dialogues between World Heritage focal points and UNESCO Heritage Awards winners’.
The international symposium is organized in collaboration with the Asian Academy for Heritage Management Secretariat at Southeast University and the Beijing Cultural Relics Protection Association, with generous support provided by the Ng Teng Fong Charitable Foundation (NTFCF).
UNESCO and NTFCF launched a 5-year partnership in 2021 to promote practices of transformative heritage conservation in the Asia-Pacific region.
All are warmly welcome to join us for this live celebratory event!
